Half dozen vs six

I went up north this morning. "Jalan-jalan shopping shopping."
In order to keep this post anonymously unknown..I shall abide to not mentioning names.

I stopped at a fastfood outlet for a quickie snack. Our tummies were growling. Empty stomach since morning.

As it was way past lunch time, the restaurant was pretty empty.

Good morning, ma am...having here or take away..?, heard a monotonous tone like a pre-recorded voice greeting me.

We only wanted a light meal to ease the hunger span as we planned to savour other goodies along the way..hawker's delights !

I scanned thru the menu in front of me. Confused of what to eat...felt some dizziness due to low sugar level in the body (hungry..la). It was stated that one could have an order of 6, 9 or 12 pieces of nuggets.

I asked for a half dozen.

'Sorry ma am....we don't have half dozen nuggets,' replied the teenage waitress at the counter.

'Huh...you don't ?' I enquired.

'Yes..ma am. We only have six, nine, or twelve,' she said.

'You mean I can order six pieces but cannot have half a dozen?" I asked again.

'Yes..ma am', she quipped

'Hmm, in that case, give me six', I placed my order ...thinking hard.

Unbelievable but true incident.....

Is this the results of PPSMI...? I wonder.

Any comments?
