Ann's Toothache

Am experiencing terrible toothache lately. The pain begins from my right molar as it spreads to my cheek, ear up to my head. The pain come and go just like one is having contractions! When the pain occurs, everything else take second place. Can't do anything except the bugging pain.

Thought it was a temporary occurrences due to the sudden change of weather, my recent holiday trip, lack of sleep or hormone imbalance. Tried to bear with the pain for a a few days. However...the pain was getting from bad to worst. I can't sleep a wink, can't concentrate on my work, can't teach, can't do just about anything. Unable to eat well. Life was hay wired !

Finally dragged myself to my regular dentist. He administered dental restoration to my molar. The pain went off..what a relieved ! Hours later, it came back. This time, it was even more painful. Tormented by the pain... Decided to wait for a day or two, thought that it takes a lil time for the new amalgam to get settled on my molar. So bear with the discomfort.

But the pain persisted. The pain was excruciating and growing. Decided to seek another dentist recommended by my colleague. The dentist could only diagnose my problem from the surface. He's unsure about the seriousness of my problem. He gave me three options. One - perform a temporary refilling and applied some anti inflammatory to my teeth. Two- opt for root canal treatment and third- extract the tooth @ last option.

I opted for the first...(wanted to salvage my precious molar). The dentist gave me
anaesthetics to reduce my pain. After two jabs, I felt my entire mouth, lips and tongue numbed all over. The he started to drill into my molar and carefully placed filling into my tooth. I felt nothing at all as I was under the influenced of anaesthetic.

The dentist warned me....if the pain returns, then I need to perform root canal treatment. True enough, the pain came back at night. It was excruciating. I could do anything except lying down on the bed.

True to my words...the pain reoccured and this time around..more pain ! This means the filling method doesn't work !

Went back to the dentist the following day. 2 options left. Root canal or extract. With the former, I could still keep my original tooth. The latter would made me lost my tooth forever. Root canal procedure was rather pricey RM1200-1500 per tooth which includes treatment, X-ray and crowning. The best part, I could keep my tooth. The duration for the entire course is about 2 months. I need to get back to the dentist for a few more procedures.

I opted to try for root canal procedure. Money wasn't really an issue when it comes to keeping my tooth. It scarry to become a toothless human before touching 40.

Undergone the first root canal therapy. Gosh it was really painful when the dentist inserted needle like acupuncture procedures continuously into my gum. This is the root canal file which is to remove the pulp from the root canal. I grabbed the dentist's arm on several occasion as it was dready painful. Even worst than childbirth...

I’ll probably have my 2nd a root-canal treatment in 2 weeks. I hope the tooth is dead soon so that I need not have to undergo another acupuncture procedure. Hope there won't be too sore and speedy recovery.
