Just thinking about a particular song can evoke vivid memories of the past or special events in your life. You've already known the song and you're hearing it in your mind.
Quote Professor Richard Harris in his research , "... thought that actually hearing the song would bring back the most vivid memories."
True enough, certain songs are very much part of me. The minute I hear it, I would associate it with a particular event of my life. It's just like a 'pendrive' storing a certain file of my life.
My late Ah Pa used to play me songs when I was little toddler in the 70s. Vividly remember the antique gramophone that stood right in the middle of the living room. Ah Pa would wind the hook at the back of the record player and sounds would be played through the huge horn. My favourites was this number....Engelbert Humperdinck - Quando Quando Quando
And I would be mesmerizing and dancing to the tune. And Ah Pa would be clapping his hands encouraging the apple of his eyes....! Guess Ah Pa was polishing my confidence!
Oldies are so popular, not because the music is good but because it reminds us of specific times in our lives. The music cues has a strong memories attached to them.
